MUTANT     PENGUINS FOUND TENDING SUSHI BAR ON REMOTE ISLAND IN JAPAN!

Sado Island, Japan

Mutant pengiuns have been discovered tending bar on Sado Island, Japan. The island, located Niigata Prefecture, 32 mi west of Honshu, has been experiencing increasing levels of radioactivity since the mid 1960's. Locals say the penguins arrived on a raft of cargo debris in the mid 70's and wandered into the local sushi bar, where they have made themselves at home. Now useful members of society, the locals say that the site of their unofficial town mascots waddling up and down the streets to the fish market early in the morning is a common one. The bar's proprietor, when asked about his experiences employing mutant penguins, had this to say:  "Well, they work for leftovers, never steal from the register, always give correct change, and they never complain about the smell of fish. In fact, the only problems I've had since they've come to work here is I've noticed that for some reason, it's gotten more and more expensive to keep the bar stocked with fish.  I didn't even have to buy them uniforms!"

Local science hobbyists hypothesize that freak currents brought the penguins from their native waters to the shores of a small barrier island nearby where they began to feed on fish that had been exposed to radioactivity. Grown to abnormal size, the large birds could no longer be supported on the small barrier island and rafted accross the Sado Strait on some discarded cargo boxes which had washed ashore.

Now beloved fixtures of Sado Island, the sushi bar staff has even passed local health inspection.

Homework 1 - Batboy Weds Brittany Spears

For this assignment, we were to find at least two pictures and composite them into a tabloid photograph and write an article for it.  After several other good ideas did not pan out due to the lack of good source pictures, I ended up choosing penguins tending a sushi bar.  The most time-consuming part of this project was definitely finding good source pictures.  I used one photo of a sushi bar with a single patron, several images of penguins, and small objects (hats, knives) taken from smaller pictures.  While this project was completed in Photoshop, I also went ahead and created the mattes necessary to do the exact same composite in Shake, if available.
