Homework 3 – Tracking
Title
Spinning Basketball
Description
I spent some time browsing through gettyimages.com for a clip to use for the tracking project. Although I found many possibilities including golf and bowling, I settled on a clip of a guy spinning a basketball on his finger.

Final Thoughts
I used the MatchMove node to track the motion of the original basketball. I modified the subpixel search range to see what kind of track curves were generated. One over sixty-four proved to give the best results. I chose a highlight region on the right side of the ball to track since it seemed to remain constant for the most part. I had to help the tracker out a little towards the end since it kept losing the ball. Tracking in the opposite direction also proved to be useful in keeping up with the original basketball. There are a few spots where I manually modified the position of the tracker but using the above techniques minimized that.
