Homework 2 – Sequence Compositing

Title

When Computer Viruses Attack…

Description

I wanted to create something funny for this little sequence as well.  I spend more than a few hours in the lab working with computers so why not have a REAL virus attack someone.  I spent some time coming up with a story and a look for the virus.  The virus ended up looking similar to the X parasite in Metroid Fusion for the Gameboy Advance.   Once that was done I drew up some rough storyboards and started filming.

Final Thoughts

The animation for the virus was created using a sculpt deformer.  The most difficult part of the assignment was creating the shadow.  I attempted following the tutorial in the book that used the Brightness node to create the shadow.  I finally broke down and used the Drop Shadow node.  I key framed the shadow at certain intervals to fix some of the location/orientation problems it was having.  I added some Film Grain and a little blur to make the virus look like it’s actually in the scene with me.
